Flashers/Hazards don't work V70-XC70 1998

One last question for today. Our turn signals don't flash, and the hazards won't work on occasion while driving. 1998 V70.

How do we fix this? is there a relay? I seem to remember something about replacing the hazard switch itself, but am not 100% sure.

The relay is part of the hazard switch. In the mean time, make the directionals work by moving the stalk up or down manually.

These aren't cheap:

If you can find one in a junk yard for $20, you are ahead of the game.

$75 buck would be the cheapest fix I've ever had on a Volvo. :)

Is it difficult to do? Do you have or know where to get instructions on how to do this (the dumbed down version for someone totally non-mechanical)....

Thanks!!

(An interesting side note: after smacking the hazard switch a couple of time, the blinkers started working again, haha).

They can be found online a bit cheaper. Just make sure it is for a 1998 V70. Call the dealer parts dept and ask for their price.

Pull out the radio, then reach down behind the flasher unit and push it out of the dash. If you are good, you don't even have to unplug the radio! Once the flasher is loose, shove the radio back in and then unplug the flasher. The new one just pushes back into place.

It pulls right straight out and unplugs at the same time.

go right to the hazard switch there in the middle of the dash. Pull it out and replace it. Hazards and turn signals should work just fine.

How does it pull out? Do you have to remove the center console or stereo?

Thanks!

I have seen directions for Volvo disassembly start with a small screwdriver - you just have to find out where to put it!

A lot of Volvo switches pull out after they are pried to one side - look at the new switch to see which side to pry on - one side will have more of a lock on it.
