That's a strange one. Moving the key from KP0 to KP1 shouldn't do anything. If you suspect the switch, try jiggling it the next time this happens.

The speedometer signal goes from the tranny to the ABS, and then to the instrument cluster via the TCU. If the ABS module was never 'repaired', that may be on the list of suspects, but then the ABS/TRKS lights will turn on.
