S60 rear sway bar bushings S60 2001

I took my '01 S60 with 190,000 miles in for an alignment after changing a front wheel bearing. The shop said the rear "sway bar to frame grommets" needed to be replaced. I assume that means the sway bar bushings. I looked at these & they aren't cracked and don't show any gaps around the bar. How should I evaluate these? They don't appear to be available separately, but I found a tip on FCP about modifying a stock replacement. Has anyone done this or have any other suggestions? Thanks.

Correct, there are no replacement bushings. The FCP 'tip' is a good one, you should look into it.

As for diagnosing yours, just take off the bolt and see if the bushing with the bracket turns easily. If it does, it will need replacement. Remember to back up onto ramps or you won't be able to get the bolt back in!! The suspension needs to be loaded.

Removed the bolt from the brackets this morning. The rubber bushing is not cracked, and is still firmly attached to the sway bar. Re-installed the bolt & could not detect any play when trying to move the sway bar up & down. Is there any reason to try & replace the bushings?

I would place the bushing/bar replacement on the back burner of your list of things to do or worry about. When handling becomes an issue during autoRXing, or when you carry 4 heavy passengers and a full trunk through the 'twisties' at speed, then get another opinion.
