Intermittent electrical problem(s) V70-XC70 1998

I have a strange intermittent electrical problem with my 1998 v70. Similar to the one mentioned here on Brickboard few days ago.
Once I start driving, I turn on A/C compressor and the blower fan. They work fine for hours if needed. If I stop to run errands, and then take off after few minutes, A/C blower fan won't turn on, and neither will the compressor...two dash buttons for A/C and re-circulation, and not illuminated. If I try to open any power windows, none will move. After next errand things may or may not return to normal. A/C related fuses are fine. Power windows don't have fuses. According to the owner's manual they are hard wired. Battery is almost new. I don't think that A/C components are on the same electrical circuit as the power windows.
First thing in the morning everything works fine. It's either the heat of the day, or the frequent errands that are causing this.

Please note that the electrical portion of the switch is relatively easy and inexpensive to replace. You do not have to replace the mechanical portion of the switch.

Also note that I said relatively - nothing on a Volvo is inexpensive!

Hi Evo,

I looked at the 95 850 schematic and believe that you have a bad ignition switch.
The wire from ignition sw X powers: Fuse 31 Ecc/AC compressor 33 Pwr seat and 34
wipers/horn.

It looks like a slam dunk, from your detailed report.

Bill
