How to remove/replace rear wheel well cover? V70-XC70 2004

I've been getting P0442s for several weeks (small EVAP leak detected). I went underneath and inspected the fuel tank/EVAP as best I could. I found a hose that enters the fuel tank adjacent to the filler hose is the source of a gunk trail that runs down the side of the tank. It looks like the original crimped hose clamp has gone lazy, letting some vapors escape during the EVAP pressure test.

Getting a new hose clamp in place will not be easy, unless I take off the black plastic wheel well cover.

My question: How do you replace the rivets that tie down the cover to the fender? Do I buy new rivets? Is there a p/n?

How to remove/replace rear wheel well cover? V70-XC70 2004

When I replaced the front bumper cover on one of our 850s, I got the pop rivets from Volvo.

They were not expensive and the shaft of the rivets were covered with plastic.

This plastic cover might avoid the reaction between the metal in most rivets and the steel of the fender.

Im my opinion, well worth the small extra cost.

A tip - I inserted 8 penny nails in all the rivet holes to make sure they all lined up then inserted rivets from the middle. This assured that small errors in lining up the holes did not add up and cause trouble with the last ones.

Pop rivets often work. When the holes in the metal lip were too large I've had success by taping small, flat washers (with properly-sized holes) behind the metal lip, for the the rivets to grip into.

The pop rivets are of the larger size.
They're the same as the ones included in the mud flap kits. They're commonly available.
Some pop rivet guns come with different collets to accommodate the larger pin size.
Just for reference, the rivets are the size used in snowmobile belts.

When you drill the old ones out you may scratch the metal (the rivets' holes) so have a small bottle of primer and Q-Tips on hand to protect any bare metal.
