AC issue (not consistent) 850

I'm having an issue with my AC right now. I've used shims in the condenser itself (so I know the AC works) but it seems to stop working after a while.

I've filled it with Freon too.

Example:

Monday it was hot, so I used the AC on my way into work (I work with adults with disabilities, so in most cases they are riding in my car with me). Once I got to my clients house (about a 45 minute drive from home), my AC stopped working.

So the last few days I drove my other car because A: it's been hotter than balls the last few days and B: it has working AC (tho it had an issue that I seemingly have fixed...not sure how).

This afternoon I received my new GPS, and I went to my Volvo to see how it works...and my AC works again.

caveat: I'm a visual learner, so I'm not sure what the damn thing is called but I cleaned the connector doohicky at the firewall and it seemed to work. I don't know what it's called, and I often times confuse it with other names that have been said on here (I'm exhausted from another long work day and high temps, so forgive me for how scatterbrained this is...more so than my normal posts i mean)

    AC issue (not consistent) 850

If you manage to overfill the R134a, the compressor will shut off. Remember, the hotter the temperature the more the gas expands.

That connector doohicky at the firewall is called the pressostat, it will turn the compressor off if the pressure in the system gets too low.

You need to get under the car and re-check the clutch gap. If it is over .040 and hot outside, the compressor may not have enough strength to engage the clutch (electro magnetic). I have to do the same thing on my 850.

      AC issue (not consistent) 850

so today while driving (I drove about 50 miles today), the AC stayed on for the last 2/3rds of my trip.

I kind of wonder if turning off the AC/turning off the car (and the AC no longer working) is an indicator of something?

Because I purposely didn't turn off the AC or the car for the last part of my trip today (I dropped someone off before I finished up my driving).

Im going to drive the car around and when the AC stops, I'm going to check the pressostat by jumping it.

      I'll report back the results.

I don't know if it's the gap. I have bread clips in it and it's very tight.

pressostat - I'm going to jump mine to see if compressor still turns 850 1995

Not related to your problem but good timing for me to learn about the pressostat as my A/C stopped cooling 6 years ago and now I'm thinking of having somebody look into it. 1st I want to check that the compressor has not seized up after 6 years. So I'll look for the pressostat and do a quick jump of it to see if something explodes. I think 6 years ago the consensus was that the evaporator leaks and it's a $1000 job to remove the dash to get at it so I figured, 'i can do that'. But 6 years goes buy quick. It's now or never. Possibly to the shop.
