Depending on your state inspection rules, you can delete the SAS and remove the pump. I did just that in my 1998 V70. Volvospeed has a very lengthy write up that involves soldering two leads in the computer and disconnecting the pump.

Other 'fixes' include drilling two small holes in the pump housing to let water drain from the pump (typical cause of pump failure). Volkswagen used the same pump in their cars and is much cheaper than Volvo.

thanks for the info Klaus...NY is strict in that regard, and I've little time for cobbling/fabricating...make just go the new route via FCP Euro..plug and play I assume...

        Herbertcat,

So, you say NY is strict, how strict????

Do they open up the hood and look for missing and/or unplugged connection??

        Just curious.

        Matt

depending on how professional the shop is, yes they will...this problem is also throwing a code every other day, and that is checked for as well...I'm just biting the bullet, and replacing all parts involved...car with only 135k, hope for many more...
