Starter replacement DIY? V70-XC70 2007

Greetings, I have a 2007XC 70 that needs a new starter apparently. I bought the starter, and I’m wondering if it’s a do it yourself job or if I should just have my local mechanic, who is really good, install it. Does anyone have any experience with this or is there a good source of information for how to do this? I did see a couple videos online, and they looked OK, but there was a lot of banging and apparently breaking things that I’d like to avoid.

"Mechanics" only break things when they are in a hurry and not paying attention. Sure, the starter may need to be encouraged to free up with a hammer, but that is normal and not a big deal. At least you don't need to crawl under the car!

BTW, the turbo makes getting the air filter box just slightly harder to get off, and the hose at the throttle body must also be removed. Get a new air filter while you are at it.

Copper or lead mallet is kinder than a "hammer". If the cable to the ETM on this model goes behind the starter motor support bracket, bring it out and tie wrap it to the front. If you ever need to remove the ETM it will mean that you won't have to remove the bracket first and will save you a bit of time and scraped knuckles.

I would have used a wooden dowel rod to tap the starter motor loose. That mechanic on A1 auto parts was a gorilla...
