HELP! Brake 'emergency' light on V70-XC70 2007

I am on a 300 mile road trip and the "brake failure pull over safely" warning came on. What does this mean? Can I drive the car? No dealers for 300 miles, which is an expensive tow! Thanks

If you have brake fluid and the car stops normally, drive it home. It could be an ABS sensor or a faulty brake pedal position sensor.

Keeping it running is better than buying new

On our '04 the brake pedal position switch was easy to adjust with minimal tools.

Have you started the car since? The light may not come back if it was a glitch

Stopped and restarted the car. Light was off for a time but came back on. Car seems to be running fine, and brakes are working, but ABS not working. Has not for some time.

Check your owners manual. You may be able to access one on line if you do not have one. If ypo bought the car used, the seller may have discarded the manual so that you cannot tell is some things are not working.

One of out 740s would throw a antilock brakes light when we went over a certain type of bump - all we lost was antilock brakes - It corrected itself the next time we start it.

Unfortunately, many people know nothing about cars and manufacturers no longer tell you what is happening - like no temperature gauge!

Take your car to a dealer, or buy a lot more insurance!

Do you have an owner’s manual? See what that says.

Don’t know what it specifically means on your car but I would start by checking the brake fluid level in the reservoir. If it is very low or there is none there is your answer. That would certainly trigger the warning. If you don’t see fluid I wouldn’t drive it anywhere except to a local service station that can check for leaks in the hydraulic system.

There is a chance it is just an electrical glitz. Once on my 2002 VW Passat the red engine warning ⛔️ light came on while highway driving. I pulled over, let the engine cool and checked the oil level. It was fine…:) So I fired it up, drove off and never saw the warning light again!

Good luck!
