95 850 Wagon, center hood release won't open. 850 1995

My wife's car has a small problem...

I can pull the hood release handle in the car, and the hood pops, but when I try to use the small black handle in the center of the grille, it's not releaseing whatever is holding it closed in the center of the hood.

I need advice on how to open the hood, because her windshield sprayer jets have also stopped, and I need to (I think) change the "T" fittings for the windshield and headlight sprayers...

Any suggestions welcome,

    Well, it has been solved...

    It turns out that someone backed into the car, just nudging the hood release out of alignment a little. It took 2 minutes to fix.

    The sprayers needed 2 new T replacements...

    Total cost:

    $11.

    Back on the road again.

    If you are certain the two latches are releasing when you pull from the cabin, then I would suggest, actually PUSHING in the little release in the grill, lifting a inch or two, then pulling. Mine has done this ever since I had it.

    Pop the hood from the inside of the car. Now slightly push down on the hood and push the release into the car. Sometimes it will free itself and pop all the way out. If not go to volvospeed.com and follow the instructions for the grill removal.

      The instructions on volvospeed seem to imply that the latch itself is the problem. In my case, the latch wasn't the problem, but rather the plastic piece to which the latch "latched" got a groove worn into it.

      My fix was to wrap the plastic with a bit of metal--a coffee can, I believe--cut up and doubled over. I then used sheet metal screws to fasten it to the plastic.

      Works very well. Looks a little crappy, but it's under the hood, so who cares?
