Pollen Filter and question on bracket!! 850 1993

Jake any dealer should have it(or can order it). The issue is which FILTER to get:regular or Charcol. I got the regular one for it seems the charcol is more restrictive(it filters out more stuff) and requires you blower motor to work harder.
Anyway, my question is: On my 97 854T5, I have a black bracket that is shaped different from the bracket I bought(see I thought I had no bracket or filter). So the square filter I have can only work with the new bracket, which will require me to open the entire cowl area. Can anyone share some light on if there is another SHAPE filter that will fit my stock pollen-bracket? I can't describe the shape but it is not square! Jack, after you open the cowl, see if you have a bracket. Apparently, my car may have had the filter at one point, but there is none in it now and I would rather not have to open that whole plastic cover. thanks all,BD

Pollen Filter and question on bracket!! 850 1996

Jake: as BD points out, if you do not have a pollen filter already installed you *probably* do not have the bracket that you will need as well. The only way to find out is by pulling up the cowling on the passenger side and checking to see what's there. What I would then do is call Dan at volvoparts.com and buy the bracket from him. I believe that you can buy the bracket and the filter together as a kit, or you can buy the bracket by itself. I mention this because I have come to the conclusion that neither Volvo filter is very good. The paper one is cheap and nothing special, and the paper/charcoal filter is way too restrictive and is not good for the fan. So I went out and bought a 3M "Ultra-Allergen" Filtrete furnance filter, and cut it down to size (6 x 10). It is much less retrictive than the sotck filters and in my opinion filters just as well. You can these filters at 3M, and I will be changing mine out every 45-60 days. I think it's cheaper and better in the long run.

BD, is the section where the filter fits into your bracket an approximate 6 x 10 rectangle? And the bracket itself fitting into an oval hole? That's what mine looks like. You might want to call Dan and ask him. I believe the part number for the bracket that I have is either 9488527 or 9488525, but you can ask Dan if that's what you are supposed to have. The stock pollen filters that I have seen are definitely rectangular (not square). Maybe you have a filter for a S70, because I know they switched the system at that point. And as for opening the cowl, you really only need to undo two screws, you can slip filters in and out. You don't need to remove the wiper blades or the entire cowl.
