Low Charging Voltage to Battery 850 1997

Read in a review on the 850 that the battery was always weak because the alternator didn't throw enough voltage to it because of the voltage regulator, which sits inside the alternator. Remember reading about this problem somewhere last year, about how to install an adjustable voltage regulator in your alternator so you could send a higher voltage to your battery. I've stored my 850, and after four or five weeks I'd have a dead battery. Ditto when I shipped it here from the States to Norway. Had to have it jumpered. Can anyone out there help me with information and a source of what I need to insert an adjustable voltage regulator in my alternator, and what voltage I should be charging the battery at without messing up the electrical? Any and all comments welcome, please. Richard
