Sway Bar Bushings 850 1993

Well, its time to replace the sway bar bushings again on my '93. I recognized the slowly increasing klunking over small bumps in the road and a shake of the bar reveals about 1/4" looseness. It seems to be about a once a year ritual, perhaps because of all the local-road driving I do. I'm wondering if anybody has found a better solution than the stock bushings. Perhaps a polyurethane version, coat the stock ones with anti-seize, wrap the bar with teflon tape? I realize the stock ones are only $25 a pair but I'm ready to try something new this year. Also, maybe I'm the only one that gets only a year from these bushings. I'd like to know if everyone else gets a few years before replacement on their '92/'93's.
Thanks,

Sway Bar Bushings 850 1993

Hey Mike,
Just saw your posting. I have the same problem with my 93. I'm on my 3rd set of bushings with 64K miles on the odometer. The best solution might be to upgrade to the newer style front bar, but I've heard it is a pain to install. Have a look at your bar where the bushings attach- mine are starting to wear into the bar! Makes them even looser. I got one response when I posted a similar question a while back- have not tried it yet, but will next time I need them. Here's what one person has done:

"I was replacing the sway bar bushing on my 93 every five to
ten thousand miles. I just bought a set of polyurethane bushing made my energy
suspension and they work great. They dont make a set for the 850 but they do
make a universal set that works. Go to there web site at energysuspension.com.
Look under the universal application sway bar bushings. If I remember, the
front bar is 23mm and I got the non-greasable set, part #9-5127. I would
recheck the size your self, I may be wrong. It comes with a bracket. You do
have to make a small modification to one bushing. On the driver side of the
bar, there are two bumps formed in the bar to keep the bushings in place. Take
a knife to one polyurethane bushing and carve off a small amount so the
bushing will slide over these bumps. It is really easy. So far every thing is
still rock solid."

I think you need to buy them from a dealer- I don't think they sell online. Let us know how they work.
