Actually low slow driving in city without fully heating the oil can be worse - for conventional oil 10000 Km (over 6000 miles) seems like a long interval of city driving!

Not in europe though. It's unusual here to use the very short intervals 3 to 5000miles) that seem popular in the US.

More recent cars use a 9500 or 12000 mile (soon 15000miles) change interval and hardly anyone ever changes it sooner. Synthetic is not used in most 'regular' cars.

The manufacturers usually only reccommend a shorter interval for cars that do a lot of towing and taxis.

Oil (like gasoline) is not cheap here :(

Bye, Arno.

A km is a km, no matter what.

What I mean is that the service man told me that new replacing oil allows up to 20.000 km. I was just asking if the car allows it too.
I'm a mechanical engineer and I think that it is ok, but I want to know experiences of other guys like you about it!

bye

I'm assuming that you are talking about synthetic oil? If so, they say you can run it a long time, but I never run oil over 6,000 miles. I would check on the amsoil site for references. I'm going to be using Amsoil soon, but will still change it at 6k mile intervals... Not sure if that helps at all, but I just don't run the oil as far as manufacturers say it will go. They also say that ATF will go 100k miles in the newer Volvos. I have seen it changed at 50k and it looks like opaque coffee. I change ATF at 30k miles...Changing it is cheap maintanance,
