disable check engine light S70

I would like to disable (not reset) the check engine light in my 1998 s70. Does anyone know of a way to remove the bulb or any other way to disable this annoyance?

If you live in Maine, don't do it. The light, and any stored codes have to be checked annually as part of the state inspection process. I magine that it isn't much different in California either...

Remove the ECU from the car overnight. It's in that black box under the hood just above the windshield washer fluid fill. Top module marked Bosch. Go ahead, pop it back in the a.m. Start your car. Voila. No light! It works. I did it last week.
Keep in mind, though, the light will come on if the vehicle still has a problem. You may get a week or 2, enought to erase the fault codes when you get the car inspected.

If you're refusing to have the problem fixed then you'ld be best to just use tape as previously mentioned because anything more severe like removing the bulb may end up causing you more problems further down the road someday. The bulb is also not easily removed or re-installed as the upper part of the dash must be removed first to access it. That light can be your friend in that it's designed to notify you of problems and not only are the many reasons why it can appear for engine related problems, it'll also come on for some trans codes too.

If you live in a state where your car has emissions tests, you'll fail immediately if that bulb is removed and if there's codes stored. In my state, all '95 on up cars are tested by using a scan tool only so if theres codes stored, you'll fail on the spot.

Square of 3M black electrical tape. Home Depot, $1.35/roll. Place square over light. Press. Simple, yet effective.

This also works well for the service reminder light and is much cheaper than the reset tool. I suppose it could even work for the oil pressure warning light if you so desire.
