Problems Starting 850

I've been having problems with my engine when starting each morning. It used to struggle when I would turn it on, almost as though it wasn't getting enough gas. I replaced the flame trap and it seemed to work great after that. Then I brought it to the dealer to get the timing belt replaced and the starting problem returned. Now, I don't have any check engine lights on so I don't think it would be a O2 sensor. Does anyone have any suggestions? Any input would be a real help.

Dump the flame trap. It's not the prob, but it went some time ago.

did you pull a code - if any?

don't discount the Air Mass meter. When this switch is failing, the engine will struggle to breath, but will not happen at regular intervals or times, making it an often overlooked item.

You've gotta search for a code. I don't know what the code for a failing airmass is. Go to www.volvospeed.com and go to the maintenance link for codes.

If your car isn't storing any codes, you'll have to get it to the mechanic. I had to replace an Air mass on my 940T and the cost was $325, not including labor. Not a cheap item. I don't know what they cost is for an 850. Never did I get a "check engine" light when the switch started to fail.

the air mass meter is located at the top of the air filter box.
