Remote Controll Device S60

What is the deal with the remote control devices falling apart. Englewood Volvo of Englewood, NJ has replaced my spouces defective remote control with a new controler at no additional cost, but to date only agrees to pay 50% of replacement to my remote controler because it was not retrievable from a curbside sewer catch basin, after it had fallen apart from my keychain when returning to my car. I have learned from various sources that the remote controler tends to be defective in this respect. Englewood Volvo after much grumbling in my part, aggrees to pay 50% of the cost (Full cost is $186 due to technical & programing merits). This remote should be replaced at no cost due to recurring opening of seal, causing remote to fall apart!

Any comments and/or suggestions to contact Volvo of this travesty by my former favorite Volvo Service Dealer, and encourage Volvo Owners with defective controlers to step forward!

Little ring spread open? Get a #8 torx screwdriver, find a small keyring that wont spread open. Remove the screw that holds the ring, slip in the new ring and hang your key. Your dealer offering 50% is more than most would do. Volvo often asks to see the parts that are being raplaced under warranty. If the dealer cannot produce the part, the ENTIRE claim is denied, not just the cost of the missing part.

Thanks for your advice on how to fix the remote. In regard to taking the 50% and running, I am pleased to announce that Volvo has come through, and interceeded with my local volvo service dealer. I will be receiving 100% reimbursement for the remote, dispite the fact that the remote was not returned. Apparently, they Volvo took notice of the fact that at my prior service I had complained about the remote falling apart. It should have been replaced back than. The remote is inherantly defective, and Volvo apparently is aware of the situation.

    Hey Paco,
Once again, I have encountered another person on this forum, whom, for some reason expect the dealer to be reponseable for the client's car when not on they're parking lot. The dealer, for the most part, will 'see' the car for 10 hours a year(regular maintenance). The rest of the time you, the owner has it! The remote "falling apart" is unforunate but the dealer DOES NOT make up the warantee, Volvo does. If the dealer replaces your 'broken' remote and Volvo wants to see it, if Volvo decides it is due to abuse, then the warantee claim is rejected. And would you come back and accept reponsability for the bill? If your dealer will pay half, take and run.
Otherwise, contact Volvo consumer affairs. The number is in that little book in your glovebox called an OWNER'S manual.

You obviously missed the point and historical backup, which was the basis of my claim. For the record, I do not expect my dealer to be responsible for my car when not in their parking lot. I do expect Volvo to stand behind their products. In this case, and the part that your somehow missed, the remote was reported to the dealer as being defective in an earlier service. Had the remote been replaced at that time, the remote would probably have not fallen off my key chain.

FYI, I am pleased to announce that Volvo has come through, and interceeded with my local volvo service dealer.
