850 ? S70? S80...etc... etc.... anyone knows what is the different between them?

I am new Volvo owner of 850 GLT non/turbo 95 Aut.Trans. ... I really like it.. even I realized it is a little expensive to maintain.... I see the others models of volvo also station wagon... I wonder what is the different between them? Which one is better? like in Toyota the Camry is better than the corolla.. or in Ford Taurus is better than Escort.... etc.. etc....

Thank you so much for your answers....

The hierarchy

The new lineup:
Biggest: XC90 - coming November 2002, an SUV
Bigger: S80, introduced 1998
Big: V70 and V70XC. Introduced 2001. Based on S80 platform (more or less)
Midsize: S60, introduce 2001 (S60; replaces S70 / 850)
Small: S40, V40 introduced US 1999

all of the above are Front wheel drive (some are all-wheel drive). None are "better," but designed to provide a range of sizes and styles. From 1994-1997, the 850 was a one-size-fits-all FWD Volvo in the US. (Europe had the 440, unavailable here.)

style: S=sedan, V=versatilty (wagon), C=coupe (2-door), XC=Cross Country
size: 40=smallest, 90=largest
==========================
From 1993-1997
240, 4 cyl RWD (rear-wheel drive)
850, 5 cyl FWD (later became S,V or C70 in 1998)
940, 4 cyl RWD larger; 960 6 cyl (became S or V90 in 1998)

850(mostly fwd, awd avail in euro)-->s70/v70(same platform as ur 850, just rounder face, fwd/awd)-->s60/v70 (new p2 platform,fwd/awd)
all use inline-5 engine variants
targeted mostly at c-class, a4, 3-series

940/960(rwd)-->s90/v90(rwd)-->s80 (fwd, no wagon avail, new p2 platform)
donno about older 940/960/s90, but s80 uses the same inline-5 (in other countries) as well as the same basic 5 cylinder +1 inline-6 variants
targeted mostly at e-class, a6, 5-series

there really isn't a "better" in volvo...definitely, the 40-series is the low end of volvo. but 850/60/70/80/940/960/90 is fuzzier...although more likely the s80 is the most expensive...but comparing 850 to 940 is really...well, different...the 850 was targeted at a very sporting consumer and came out later so it has a more richly apointed interior, while the 940/960 was the flagship, it came out earlier and was not quite luxurious is some ways, and it was a comfy sedan, volvo's version of cadillac ride...
