ecu programming S40-V40 2002

ok, i was just at the dealership today. i was talking with the service guy, since him and i pretty much buddies, and got into the topic of the ecu controlling the turbo. just as a joke i asked him if he thinks that the mechs can reprogram the ecu to allow more boost. the mech pretty much act like he didn't want too but just told me to dream on. now, the question is, is there a program that someone has that i can use myself to reprogram for more boost? or is this something that i have to pay over 1k for ipd to do it for me? where else can i go to have them only program for a tad more boos? thnx

jay

I spoke with some reps at Upsolute, the Volvo upgrade is $500, based on their risk of damaging your ECU. They also could not provide me with a graph of gain. I found this company to be helpful and prices consistent with their website:
You ship your ECU to them in MD, they return it within a couple days. Cost is $299 as of a month ago.
I am not associated with either company but am looking for more from my S40.

Check out www.upsolute.com For about $350, you get around a 40 hp gain. Before doing this upgrade, you must have an exhaust, just as IPD recommends.

To reprogram the ECU you need specific software, hardware and the right PIN/passcodes.

What you are paying IPD/TME for is not the re-programming, but the development cost of the new map (not just a boost raise, but a complete new fuel/ignition/boost map which has the right settings for the higher boost) and the related equipment to perform the upgrade.

Same goes for the people who do chiptuning by swapping out the PROM inside the ECU. The PROM itself costs hardly anything and a competent technician can do the swap in an hour or so, but you also pay for whats inside the upgraded PROM.

If you just want added boost and are willing to take (and understand!) the risks then you could always remove the ECU boost control and install a manual controller.

Works as well, but as you remove some of the safeguards in the engine management this way. It will be up to the driver to keep the engine 'alive', instead of the ECU..

    Bye, Arno.

nah, i'm not going to go through all that. i want to keep my car mechanicly stock as possible. it would still be nice not to have to pay all that much just to have the boost raised. the mech also told me that the ipd/tme ecu would void my warranty. that sucks too, but if i could reprogram it myself, very unlikey, then that would be great. too bad though.
      thnx

Tell that mechanic to get off the crack that he is smoking because he is full of crap! An ECU upgrade will not void your warranty unless a part fails as a DIRECT result of having had your ECU upgraded.
