Frozen Transmission Selector S80 1999

I have a recurring problem with my 1999 S80 T6. When the temperature drops below 10 degrees F. I can't get the transmission selector out of park. I suspect it's the solenoid connected to the brake switch that's sticking during cold temperaturs but am not sure. If I let the enging warm up for a few minutes (more than a few actually) it works. Took the car to the Volvo dealer but they told me they couldn't duplicate the problem - surprise, surprise.

I often have to drive to North and South Dakota and when leaving the care outside overnight during cold weather this lockup consistently occurs. For those of you who don't know North Dakota has four seasons (June, July, August and Winter).

Has anyone seen this problem before and what't the fix....

thanks

It needs a new shift release solenoid mounted to the shifter as we see that on occasion here in northern climates. Tell your dealer to replace it ASAP as they should know that by now.
The older Volvos had emergency shift release buttons for such occasions BUT they (couph) fixed the newer cars so well that they apparently didn't think they need that anymore. No emergency fuel door release cables anymore either.
