Have a potentially dangerous problem on my '96 850 GLT. I have a leak in fuel system somewhere. If I fill tank there's a leak until I get to about half tank then it stops. I just got the car and wasn't aware of it till I filled the tank. Not a huge leak but there's been a small puddle of gas in my garage. Anyone out there had similar problems and what remedy? Has this been a common problem on this year or model. Could it be the fuel filter or some such? Least it would be easier to fix.

You might also check the pipe that goes to the tank from the filler door. There's a clamp attached to a rubber house that feeds into the tank. If the clamp is loose, it may leak. Can you see it leaking when you fill up?

Could be the filter if recently replaced inproperly. Could be the tank. Only way to know is to lift the car, get underneath and look.

If it is the tank how difficult is it to fix?
