gas tank leaking on 850 850 1996

Have a potentially dangerous problem on my '96 850 GLT. I have a leak in fuel system somewhere. If I fill tank there's a leak until I get to about half tank then it stops. I just got the car and wasn't aware of it till I filled the tank. Not a huge leak but there's been a small puddle of gas in my garage. Anyone out there had similar problems and what remedy? Has this been a common problem on this year or model. Could it be the fuel filter or some such? Least it would be easier to fix.
