Service light S70 1998

Does anyone know how to reset the "service" light in a 1998 S70. I had instructions for a 99 but they didn't seem to work on the 98. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mike

If you know the instruction for resetting service light of 1999 S70, wouldn't you mind to tell me so I can do it on my S70? Thanks!

Another dumb idea from Volvo S70 1998

'96-'98s require the special reset tool. You can buy it from IPD, although I've seen the same tool from other sources for less. Still more than $100. All things considered I figure it might be "worth" if if you have two or more cars in the affected years. Otherwise it makes more sense to me to have my dealer or Volvo shop do the oil changes and reset the light.

You can always just ignore it, it goes off by itself in a couple of minutes. (unlike the stupid BRIGHT Honda light that just comes on and stays on when the counter tells it, like when you're driving along a dark highway at night.)

Alternatives include taking the bulb out and a square of black 3M electrical tape ($1.35, Home Depot or Lowes). (The tape also works well on "check engine" lights, etc!)

My brother the engineer has a fix for the CE light S70 1998

When his light came on, he scanned the car and found multiple emissions failures. He went to Radio Shack and bought, oh, maybe $40 worth of stuff like a relay, some resistors, a capicitor, etc. and wired it so the CE light comes on when you start the car, and then goes off after 4 seconds. It is connected to nothing other than his little closed loop circuit. Even with the emissions failures, he still cleared Virginia's emssions inspections by a wide margin.

I think I'll have him do the same for me. I've already removed the service lamp - I change my oil every 5K miles and I look at my odometer often and can count in increments in five. So who needs the light?

Dave,

Can we get some more info. on the CE lamp (and how to possibly disable it?).

I seem to have a gremlin that produces a misfire read out that neither I nor my dealer can figure out. We've blown out any possible water remaining in the spark plug holes, etc. And it always returns.

You need a special tool for the 98's. $178.00 from IPD. Or do like I and have it done at the dealer during an oil change.
