Hi, i would like to know how high can i go ( in hp ) with my v70 t5 1998.In 2-3 weeks i will have the ipd ecu and exhaust so thats gonna be around 295hp with the k&n in it.Ive found some goodies at eastern aerospace that would easily blow my car to the 350hp range.Is it going to be too hard for the automatic tranny??? any problems with the connectings rods??My car is a daily driver and i want to keep it safe so i will keep the boost setting at 14.5 psi (ipd). Any suggestions please i don`t want to do something that i will regret.Thanks Dan.

It's not the hp max of 300 that can bend con rods, it's when the max hp is achieved that can cause the problems. I you keep max power in upper rpm, you can exceed 300 hp providing you have done everything properly. You should have 350 cc injectors to handle additional fuel requirements (your R should have them). Make sure you install the free flow exhaust and k&n filter. At 14.5 psi your max hp is what IPD tells you, to go higher hp you must increase boost. Go to Volvospeed.com, a good site to explore about this. Also, do not believe EA claims of hp, not reliable source. Most chip tuners who do get into 16-18 psi do so in higher gears at higher rpms so as not to damage internals.

There are reports on this board of disasters like bent connecting rods when the engine gets too close to the edge of the envelope. And the inherent handling flaws of FWD make such an exercise fruitless.

Wouldn't mind having the Peugeot 206 rally car, though. 315hp, and an awesome 650 lb ft of torque!

Beware of the claims of horsepower gains. You may be able to get into the high 200's with a chip and exhaust but that's probably about it unless you do major work. I have read in these threads FWIW that the automatic tranny can take up to 300 hp.
