Volvo dealer unable to program key

I just bought a pre-owned C70 from a dealer. When I picked it up, they could not provide me with a spare key because they said they were unable to program it so that it would work with my car. (Key, not the remote). So they had a replacement drop-shipped to me and since I don't live near that dealer, they are agreeing to pay for the cost of having it programmed at a my local dealer. So I went to my local dealer, and they are unable to program this second new key. What's the deal????

If your c70 is a 99 or newer its going to require vadis time and software to get it to work. If someone in the parts department wasn't paying attention they could have ordered a 98 key for an 00 car. The part numbers are different. If you have the bag the key came in or the packing sheet that came with the key. The 98 keyblank part number is 9203093. The 99 and newer key part number is 9203136. I hope this helps.

When I bought my S70, I asked the dealer about getting another spare. He referred me to a local locksmith. The locksmith told me that the machine that makes the Volvo keys is very expensive and only a few locksmiths have them. Seems that I paid about $30 for the key. Try a few of the local Volvo dealers. At least one of them should have a locksmith with this ability.

Highly doubtfull that anyone here would know but key programming problems with newer cars can be a bummer, been there. I suggest that you have your local dealer order the key again (if need be) and let them solve the problem. It might take a call to Volvos tech hot line. Could be an antenna ring or immobilizer receiver problem but the dealer will need to spend the time to figure that out, not always a simple solution.
