2000 S80 T6 Lessor looking to but in 60 days S80

I have a 2000 S80 T6 and it has 48,000 miles on it. I am interested in purchasing it, but the residual value is, in my opinion, out of wack. It was set at $27,000. The MSRP on the vehicle was $45,000, it was purchased for $41,500. I have done some research and the market on these cars has dropped significantly. I think a reasonable buyout is 21K to 22K. The car is with Volvo Finance - do they negotiate? I love the car, it has great exceleration, a smooth ride and is extrememly conformatble, but I am not willing to pay 27K.

Help - looking to stay a Volvo owner.

I was in exactly the same boat as you - 2000 S80 T6 with about 50k. Started my negotiations and couldn't get anyone to budge from the 27k. Finally the dealer offered to go to 25k. Auction prices are around 18k. I laughed at him and bought a Mercedes E320. Volvo not only lost a customer - you can be certain I'll NEVER come back. The S80 T6 was a beautiful looking car. Unfortunately, Volvo engineers failed to execute and Volvo failed to stand behind it's mistakes.

That price seems a little high. The advantage is that you get a car that you "know".
I recently purchased a '99 S80 T6 with 60,000 miles for $20K. I passed on a 2001 2.9 with only 11K miles because the dealer would not budge from $27K.
As others have stated, give only what you are comfortable with. Tell the dealer and be prepared to walk away. IF they let you get away, it is likely they will call you within a day or two and accept a lower offer.

I have "negotiated" many cars this way. Just walked away, told them I was not happy with them or the price, and left. More than once I have been called back in after the salesman had "long talks with the sales manager" (yeah, right!) and had my offer accepted.

A co-worker of mine was able to negotiate the purchase of his S70 last year. I would offer no more than what you are comfortable with. What have you got to lose? All they can say is "no".
