Changing the ABS controller - is it easy? V70-XC70 1998

Thanks to various answers here in response to my last post it appears I need a new ABS controller to correct a frequent error light. I ahve found a website that can provide a re-manufactured one for £250 ($387) and I have located the unit underneath the ABS pump.

It appears to be fixed on by 4 or 5 small stellar-headed bolts. Is it a straightforward job just to remove these and replace the controller? Is there anything else I need to know before doing this myself?

All advice gratefully received - and thanks to all of you who answered the previous question.

Martin (fuseman)

It's not too bad, you just have to do it by "feel". The bolts are E5 (external torx). It also helps to move the fuse block out of the way- it is held by two clips. Also, the electrical connector on the ABS unit has a locking mechanism which must be released before you unplug.

Good luck !

just unbold the 4 tiny screws on each corner after unhooking electronic connectors. then gently lower it and ease it off.......hope you have tiny hands....it is tight down there.

I will chime in here. I removed mine by taking the airbox out and just reached up under..... Not a big deal ~ 20 minutes total plus install.

I also think the price you are looking to pay is WAY 2 HIGH. Their is a great guy in CA who did mine for under $150, PLUS he added an additional heat sink to dissapate the heat from cracking the board again.

His name is Victor. His email is vicrocha@earthlink.net

Good Luck!

Mike
