S70 T5 - Stalling Out Problems - HELP S70 1998

My 98 S70 T5 5spd has a weird problem, the first real problem it has ever had. When I was at a light, the car stalled. I started it up, and when I accelerated it would die down or jerk. When I was idling again, I had to keep the car revving above 1000 rpm. I also notice I cannot accelerate or drive beyond 3000 rpm.

Is this a common problem? I've had a Maxima that had this problem and it was a Throttle Position Switch. I had a 300ZX (old one) that did this and it was a MAF Sensor. I had a Mustang GT that used to die at idle and it was a Idle Air Control Bypass Valve (IAC Valve).

What could it be ????

S70 T5 - Stalling Out Problems - HELP S70 1998

My 98 S70 T5M did this once about 3 months ago. I had driven about
2 miles (car was cold when I started) and it stalled at a light.
It was very difficult to start -- almost like it was flodded. I also
had a check engine light on after that. I purchased an OBDII reader to
read the code. The code indicated something wrong with the turbo over
boost circuit (I can't recall). I decided the code was not related to
the problem.

I have not had the problem since. It was very strange and unnerving.
I have not noticed anyone else reporting this (here on this board).

I think you should have the OBDII system read for stored codes. I
understand some auto parts stores (pepboys maybe) will read the codes
for you for free.

There was also a recall for the wiring to the throttle positoner switch on
98s. The repair involves tieing down the wire to the throttle positon
switch so it can't vibrate. If that was done it is very obvious because
the wire will be looped back a bit and a cable tie will be holding it in
place. It was called "Campaign - MAF Connector Loose". TSB 2230010
described the repair (my car had this done back in 98).

S70 T5 - Stalling Out Problems - HELP S70 1998

On cold mornings (say 30F or below) at the first stop sign or two mine will stutter down to around 500rpm and act like it wants to stall, but then fixes it self and all is well. Only once did I feel like I really had to give it gas to keep it running. I'm thinking my problem may be related to plugs and wires though.

S70 T5 - Stalling Out Problems - HELP S70 1998

I have the same problem of falling to ~ 500 rpm then returns to 900 at stop lights. Doesn't happen often, though. Just replaced plugs at 31K and still experience the problem. I am taking mine in to have a pre-warranty expiration inspection and will have dealer check it out. Will let you know if anything is found.

please let me know on this one because mine does that same thing. Has done it since I bought it and still persists. I have not brought it to the dealer for it because I know it will be one of those things that they can't replicate since it doesn't always do it. For me, it seems to be only when it is fully warmed up.
