Re: Emmission System Needs Servicing Light [S80]⏯] S80 1999

My S80 showed both messages loose filler cap and then it would follow with emmission System Needs Servicing. I called the service department at my dealership and they explained how to put the gas cap on correctly. They put the cap on and before I could get home I had an emmission message. I was told that it would not hurt to drive the car with the emmission system needs servicing light on and the check engine light on. This has been going on since I bought the car in December 2003. I took it back to the dealership because the check engine light was on as much as it was off and I was uncomfortable driving with it on. I again got the lecture on how to put the gas cap on and again before I got home the emmission message was on. I took it in again today left it and they said they found a service bullitan that repaired the situation. I'll wait and see if this resolves the issue. I expected more from my Volvo dealership. I am disappointed in the way they handled the situation.

Re: Emmission System Needs Servicing Light [S80]?] S80 1999

Jenni, I feel sorry for you because I've gone through what you are going through now. My '99 S80 started showing so many messages I couldn't live with it, stuff like Emissions, Light warnings, the towing symbol would flash on and off (arbitrarily and capriciously). I ended up returning it to the dealer after 20 days. I really think, in my case, the dealer was doing what they could, but I really expected a whole lot better from Volvo. I have an old 240 I bought new in 1988 that has never given me trouble, but that S80 turned me off forever on the new ones. I really do wish you good fortune after they get this taken care of for you. They are beautiful car and mine was a pleasure to drive for the 2 days it wasn't in, or going into, the shop.
