Automatic Vs Manual - The fastest 850

Will be in the process of buying and 850R in the uk. looking to keep it longterm. I love my automatic T5 i have at the moment. are the manuals quicker???

    Manual transmission is always faster in response. You have to take into account that you have not slipping effect wich always implies power lose, it has the clutch function in manual transmission (the transition) that is not controlled by you as in MT.

    Shifting is more precise in manual transmission, and it allows you a really sport driving if you want or like. Moreover less consuptiom is guaranteed.

    In the other hand AT is more confortable and shifting is smoother.

    Differences are less significative as the engine is more powerful. In a 850r you will not suffer lackness of power unless the car have auto tranny.

      MT is faster if you know what you're doing. Most of us can't shift that fast.

      Best Volvo tranny of all? The instant-change automatic on my 88 745T. I would manually click through the gears, and it did whatever I wanted the instant the gearshift clicked into the next position. No delay whatsoever. You can't shift any faster than that.

    Your average person driving normally will not outshift a 4 speed auto trans. Pro drivers in tests get a tad better speed from MTs because they're powershifting the trans like a race car driver. If you try powershifting often, you'll destroy the clutch and/or MT in time so it's not adviseable.

    that depends....how are u on shifting? and how nice are u on the clutch?


    one thing that does work in favor of the 850r is the stock limited slip differential available in europe with the manual....very useful
