Cruise control mercury switch V70-XC70 1998

Does anyone happen to know if my '98 V70 AWD has one of those mercury trip switches that disable the cruise control. I know they used to fit them to older models and they were designed to turn off the cruise control if you fell asleep and drove into a field.
The reason I ask is that my cruise control has stopped working after a recent extreme emergency stop, and it has not worked since.

There is no mercury switch. The switches capable of stopping operation are mechanical and operated by the brake and clutch pedals. Another common failure is vacuum hose leak under the battery tray. The fast stop could have been the last straw.

I've checked the connections to the vacuum pump, they seem ok.
Do you happen to know where the actual Cruise Control Unit is located - or is it now part of the ECU?
