A/C question S70 1998

I recently purchased a '98 S70 T5 with 88k miles for $8900. The only problem I found was that the A/C does not produce very cool air at all. I have observed two additional things:

the green a/c LED remains on when I turn the a/c on, so apparently the a/c control system thinks everything is ok [at least that's what the owners manual implied]

I also observed that when the a/c is on, the compressor will switch on for a few seconds, off for about 10 seconds, on again, off again and keeps cycling.

any ideas of what I should check?? Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,
td

A/C question S70 1998

the frequent cycling is consistent with low freon.

Get a AC recharge kit at your local auto parts store and recharge.
Get the freon can that has the freon 134 plus the leak detector and leak seal inside the can.

A/C question S70 1998

My A/C lights flash for a minute or so every month. System works fine. What does it mean?

A/C question S70 2000

A dealer would tell you the whole A/C compressor needs to be replaced. An indy mechanic would try to rewire the compressor to aviod what is 'usualy' a bad sensor/temp. switch in the compressor. However, if you take a look round this board you will see multiple people that had to replace the whole A/C compressor for a cost of $1500 to below $1000. This was a problem with the 850 model that was never fixed and is now appearing with regularity in the S70's.

Yes, I'm getting fed up with my volvo.
