serpentine/auxilliary belt tensioner. 850

Dear All

I was checking underbonnet and noticed as the engine was running that the serpentine belt tensioner (behind the power steering pump) had a part shaking. It seems that the body of the tensioner was stable but a small round part with a 'lobe' on it was shaking back and forth.

Is this normal? How do I know if the tensioner is about to pack in?

I really don't know if the belt was ever changed though it doesn't seem to have any cracks or splits!!
Thanks again
Matt

    serpentine/auxilliary belt tensioner. 850

    Hi

I would definitely have that checked out, my serpentine belt started making a little bit of noise and my mechanic installed a new re-routing system for the belt. The fix wasn't too expensive. Hope that helps, if you need more detail let me know I'll try to get the specifics from my mechanic.

PS - The next time you change your timing belt, change the pretensioner on that too; if it fails it can have the same end result as the belt breaking.
