replacing a 98 S70 air pump with a 97 air pump but changing the cap with the electrical connections to accommodate the connectors. S70 1998

I was wondering if the air pump for the 1997 could be modified to fit the 1998. The pump itself appears to be the same but the back piece iwth the electrical connections is different. The 97 uses a separate relay and a ground wire. The 98 has the relay located in the fuse the fuse box. The back of the air pump with the cap removed has two male connectors. One large and one small. Both air pumps appear to be the same in that regard. would the 97 air pump work on the 98 if you changed the wired cap on the back and connected the small and large male connectors to the female connectors in the 98 cap???

replacing a 98 S70 air pump with a 97 air pump but changing the cap with the electrical connections to accommodate the connectors. V70-XC70 1998

Hi, you seem to be on the right track, I disected a 98 air pump and bottom line- the DC motor (as small/ tiny as it is) only needs 2 wires to run + & - so the signal to the relay for kicking in the power is the key!

By the way, I did put the 97 air pump in my 98 S70, you just have to put the 98 cap on the back so the male/female connections meet, I got the air pump for $30 out of a junk yard, I put 12Volts through it and it ran great. You must change the check valve ($98 bucks at the dealer, no way around this) vbecause the hydrocarbons will definitley cause the valve to stick and then the moisture runs right back down to the pump flooding it again. I did drill some small holes in the palstic housing so the water could escape. No problem as the the hoes are not near the veins of the pump. Did the whole job for $130. I replaced it using my own method , not the way that BAY 13 suggests. That way is far too much work in my opinion.
