replacing a 98 S70 air pump with a 97 air pump but changing the cap with the electrical connections to accommodate the connectors. S70 1998

I was wondering if the air pump for the 1997 could be modified to fit the 1998. The pump itself appears to be the same but the back piece iwth the electrical connections is different. The 97 uses a separate relay and a ground wire. The 98 has the relay located in the fuse the fuse box. The back of the air pump with the cap removed has two male connectors. One large and one small. Both air pumps appear to be the same in that regard. would the 97 air pump work on the 98 if you changed the wired cap on the back and connected the small and large male connectors to the female connectors in the 98 cap???
