Fixed Seatback Cable but need some help 850 1993

I fixed my seatback this afternoon, i did it the free way, took off the seat cover, unscrewed the 8mm screws in the plat holding the cable in the motor. Then I found by pushing the square drive shaft as far as it will go back into the cable and then inserting the cable back in the motor and operating the switch the seatback gained movement again up and down. So I'm psyched saved myself a bunch of $$,

Here's my question: now how do i get it so i can use it without opening the seat again (i havent put it back together yet, its still in the driveway), like secure the cable so it works while im driving for instance? Thanks for any help, I'll post this over on VS's maintenance board too. Thanks.

Excellent job guys! 850 1993

Why pay $40 if you got the time and idea?

I fixed mine few years ago. I took it apart and improvized!

Really, not only would I, a 16-year old with a better things to spend money on, have to fork over $40 but I'd have to go through the trouble of ordering the part, etc....

So having the day off, I pulled the car into my garage and improvised...saved me $40 and some time...and its fun fixing things yourself.

hmmmm 850 1993

Well, good job on "fixing" your seat, I know it's a tough job. However,
a new cable from volvo will only set you back around 40 bucks. If you're going to go through the trouble of getting into the back of your seat (and it is a bit of trouble), why not just put a new cable in?

I have a 93 850 122k miles. I repaired my Seat back cable about 6 months ago. I trimed the about 1/4" off of the end of the cable cover, I used a punch to spread open the metal end piece. I used JB WELD adhesive on the cable cover and reinserted into the metal end piece and recrimped.

Matt,

I fixed my 93 850 seat back cable too,

the problem is the cable it self is too short, you need to cut the housing
down 1/4, I melted the plastic housing enough to pull the end cap off with a lighter, than pulled out the cable enough so I could trim back the plastic housing.
I than heated up the housing with a light so I could get the cap back on,
this gives you more sqaure end to go into the female end of the motor,

My works perfect,

seat back cable 850 1994

I've got my seat all apart. Thanks to you guys and Bay 13!

I'm wondering how the thing actually works (presuming I get back together) and if I need a new cable. Does the mechanism work only by pushing at one end or the other? It seems that only the housing is attached; the cable itself isn't actually attached to anything, it just protrudes a bit into that little hole. I don't see how it could ever pull the seat back the other way. Is there a cable-end piece I'm missing?

ALso, if all I'm doing is shortening the housing 1/4 in, couldn't I do it at either end?
