How to Tell 850 1995

I always read about people refering to their 850's as either 854's or 855's.....is there a difference between the three? How can I tell What kind I have, mines a 1995 850 GLT. Just curious Thanks

    How to Tell 850 1995

Interestingly, they stopped using the '4'&'5'digits to denote the number of doors in Australia with the 70 series (not sure about the 90 series) but we certainly don't have them in 850s.

On the subject, traditionally the 2nd digit signified the number of cylinders the model had,so how do they now come up with S80s and C70s?

    Rick.

I guess the number of doors was translated to the first letter when the S70 came out.
      "S" would be the sedan or 4 doors (S40, S70, S80)
"V" would be for Wagon or 5 doors (V70)
"C" would stand for Coupe or 2 doors (C70)

Now the "XC" or cross country seems to break from the door designation equation.

        Yeah but... 850 1995

I'm with you on the C,S & V(beleive V stands for versatile or similar?) BUT where does the 7 and 8 come from, they're not 7 and 8 cylinders. And I believe there is an S90? If you're from the old school you'd think it was a 9 cylinder. SAAB and BMW have maintained their numbering so that they are decipherable,I just can't figure Volvo's any more.

The second digit has been used since the start of the 140's to indicate the number of cylinders but was discontinued with the S & V series.
