Tonight I'm putting a new radiator in the 855t. The old one and intercooler are on the garage floor.

Haynes says fill it through the overflow tank, SLOWLY. I understand that the goal here is to not trap air in the system.

I'm thinking about filling the raditor through the upper hose spigot once it's in then put the hose on and continue filling through the tank. Is this advisable? Should I top up the overflow tank, let it settle then repeat?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have a buyer insterested and he's waiting untill I'm finished to come see the car.

No problems. It took about two hours to get everything back together. I filled through the expansion tank and let it settle while installing the fan and turbo plumbing.

I'll have to top off tomorrow.

I filled the coolant via the overflow tank when I replaced my radiator about 2 years ago. No problem at all.

I replaced the water pump on my S70 a couple of weeks ago. I refilled through the overflow tank with a 50/50 mix of Volvo coolant and distilled water. After 3 or 4 days the low coolant light started "blinking", so I topped off- no problem since. It really shouldn't matter how you fill, as long as you fill! You will probably have to top off again through the overflow either way.

I've always refilled via the overflow tank, and it's been fine. One thing I do is to add the proper amount of straight (undiluted) coolant to the empty system first. Then I add an equal amount of distilled water. It's likely you won't be able to get enough water into the system right away. After a few days, you'll notice that the air bubbles have worked their way out, and then you can just add more water to achieve the proper mix.

Unfortunately, I can´t offer any advice. But I am interested in how it works out for you as I am planning on replacing aftermarket coolant with the volvo stuff. Please post a note when you´re done. Thanks!
