Just now considering buying an AWD Volvo for my wife. All we've had so far have been 240's. Which years and models are pre-Ford AWD?? Are the model years after Ford took over the same quality? What can we expect to find in the $5,000 to $8,000 range? Are the AWD's as nice for the DIYer as the 240's? Thanks for your patience with these basic questions.

All Volvos on the road today were engineered before Ford would
have had an impact so that should not be a consideration.
