IPD CPU upgrade? S80 2000

Do the software upgrades that volvo has been coming out with for this car go directly into the CPU? I guess what I asking is whether or not the IPD CPU upgrade will continue to work if a volvo dealership decides to upgrade my software. What will happen? does anyone know? Any help will be greatly appreciated as I would love to get the IPD CPU/Exhaust upgrade but do not want to have to worry about future software downloads. Thanks,

    Please check the below link out. Note, this is for Turbo models only
    I have a friend in Sweden that has done this upgrade and it works
    perfectly. The good thing is that you can at anytime shift between stock and
    upgrade or the other way around. No more removing the ECU's just plug in via the OBD connector and program.
    The site is in Swedish but hopefully you will be able to navigate through it.

    u should ask ipd... in any event, should the factory upgrades remove any of ipd's program, ipd will reflash it for u for free...

      Thanks for that piece of info, I did not realize that they would reflash it for free. Good idea, I guess that IPD would be the people to ask. Thanks for the input.

        Do you have to ship your ECU to IPD for them to flash it?

            Yes, the CPU for the S80 has to be sent to IPD. Other cars (ie. 850, S70) can just do a swap, but since the S0 has the CPU serial numbers matched with the car (or something like that) the CPU must be sent to them. According to them, the whole process takes about three days in their hands. As for the warranty, IPD says that it may not void the warranty, but in case of major powertrain failure, Volvo may blame the IPD upgrade and then the warranty would be void. To answer your question safely, I would say that good chance that it will void the warranty. Luckily (in a way), I have 52,XXX miles on the car and don't have to worry about that anymore.
