Just got a 96 850 Turbo and it can shift into reverse without braking (not good). I tried another transmission lock switch located on the brake pedal but that didn't fix it. I suspect the microswitch but the people here say a bad one results in not being able to shift out of park. Anyone know what could be causing it to shift easily into reverse? Thanks!

Does it do this with the key out of position II? Does it require you to press the button on the shifter?

I was not aware of any connection betwen the brakes and reverse. If this were the case I'm sure that I would have seen it on one of the BBs.

There should be a lock on top of the shifter that has to be released to put the car into reverse. I would check the proper operation of that lock.

A bad micro swith (not making contact) will result in the shifter not going out of Park. If the switch is shorted, then it will come out of Park with no brake. A test might be to disconnect one terminal of the micro switch and see what happens. If it works normally, the the switch is the bad guy. If not, then there is a short somewhere else in that circuit.

anyone know anything about changing the microswitch? is it hard to do or expensive?

i get my 850 on thursday and that is the only thing wrong on the whole car. it just got outta the shop. the thing is flawless and one owner but the guy has to sell it cause he is shipping out cause he is in the military.
