shifting without braking 850 1996

I was not aware of any connection betwen the brakes and reverse. If this were the case I'm sure that I would have seen it on one of the BBs.

There should be a lock on top of the shifter that has to be released to put the car into reverse. I would check the proper operation of that lock.
