400 Series Infocentre 400 1994

Hi...

I think this gonna be above alot of people's head's, but here goes. I have a facelift model 1994 440 2.0i SE (B20F Engine). I really want to remove my dashboard (Speedo, Fuel, Temperature etc), and replace it with a dash from a 480 or a 440 Turbo, so it has the Volvo Infocentre. Is this possible to do? Will it be as simple as unplugging mine, and dropping the other one in? I have seen a 1996 460 2.0i B20F CD with the infocentre in, so it must be possible. Will i need to change my gearbox or any other mechanical things?

Any help appreciated,

Dan the Man

I think there's one major difference between them.. Cars with an info-centre use an electronic speedometer and a pickup in the gearbox, while the other cars use a simple cable-drive between the speedo and the gearbox.

So you'd need to transplant that too.

Another thing is that the info-center hooks up to the ECU wiring for the fuel consumption statistics. A turbo with be an Bosch LH unit, while the normally aspirated ones use a Siemens FENIX. Not sure if the connections are the same or not.

Very hard to tell if it's goinf to be possible. Will be a lot of 'trial and error' and puzzling with wires involved, that's for sure...

    Bye, Arno.

      Hi Arno...

Cheers for that, it kind of sums up the whole situation. Had this message posted elsewhere, and nearly everyone has said the same-but hearing it from you has just re-iterated how difficult it's going to be.

I think for now im going to leave it. It was a nice idea while it lasted! Maybe something to tackle when i have loads of money and loads more free time!

      Cheers, Dan
