850 tailgate lock and latch 850 1994

My '94 850 has two tailgate problems --
1. The key doesn't work in the tailgate. I have to put the key in the front door lock to open the tailgate.
2. The inside latch won't fully release the lock. The latch moves, and it loosens the tailgate so I can move it an inch or so, but that's it.
Any ideas about what I should look for?

Been there, done that. I had essentally the same problem on my '94 wagon. There's a "plunger" mechanism in the lock that wears out. New lock is in order, I'm afraid. As I recall it was $158 from the dealer, but I'd look online or call FCP Groton.
