Leave the other car in the dust 850

Recently, having had many good stuff put in my 1994 850 (158,000 miles), including combustion chamber cleaning and BG44K in the tank, and various other must-have maintenance, I took the car out for a leisurely drive on a long stretch of highway. I came to a stop and soon a muscular-looking Ford Mustang was beside me. At first I didn't notice, but the vroommmmmm, vroooooooooommmmmmmm of that young man's engine soon caught my attention. I glanced over my right shoulder and noticed that this guy wanted to race. I was not in the mood, because I was listening to my favorite classical music.

The light turned. The Mustang zoomed off. I told myself, "what a jerk!" Then our two cars were again side by side at the next traffic light. This time, I told myself, "you want to race, let's see if my 850 can outrun your Mustang". I was determined, and my engine was in harmony with me.

The light turned, and the Mustang started zooming off, maybe a split second faster. Then I could feel my car respond, in automatic gears and not in a hurry skinning the tires like the Mustang,in fewer than 500 yards, I could see the teeth-grinding young face in the rear mirror. There was no more traffic light. Soon, the Mustang was "left in the dust", so to speak. My adrenaline was rushing, ha, I beat that young punk. Then I glanced at my speedometer; it registered 90 MPH. All under 30 seconds.

After that, I slowed the car down to 60 MPH, and that Mustang was OBEDIENTLY going at about the same speed, 20 car length behind me.

What a good drive that morning!

Maybe it was a V6 850

Of course it may have been a V6 Mustang. Having driven one as a rental I can tell you that it is a real turkey as far as performance goes.

The performance isn't the sole reason why most of us bought our 850's but ohhhh yeahhhh...it's one of those nice perks.

yeah,
i can even smoke the gt mustangs with my 850R. with the tme exhaust and chip i put on this summer, you don't really feel the upgrade until you really hammer down. that is the best feeling blazing past a redneck in a pony with a "soccer mom" car.

The gt mustangs are around 236hp so with your R and mods a mustang doesnt have a chance. The old 5L Gts had 275hp. The GT cobra I'm not sure about but I dont think the R with mods would beat it.

yeah, you are right about the higher performance muscle cars. those i don't play with. the funny thing is no one expects a box to be that fast; plus all the american muscle cars have cheesey interior. i would like to own a cobra or ss camaro, but the finish quality would make me miss my 850R.

I dont normal race anyone anymore but the odd time when someone pull up in a new monte carlo ss or something to that avail i'll switch to sport mode and give it a go till abit above the speed limit. Most cars mine will beat. The SS we were neck and neck. I back off because I dont need the ticket and my license has been clear for over 4 years.
The only time that bothers me to this day is a 94 accord v6 pulled up in the merge lane at light. I went and was a car length ahead. His lane was ending and I figured it was over.. he was over zealous and kept going. i let the gas go and he was still flooring it. He was beside me.. I wasnt on the pedal and he was probably at 5k rpm. I then floored it but turbo needed the second to wind back up but he had the momentum. It was too late and his lane was ending in the next 200 ft. so I said forget it and gave the room to keep everything very safe.
But the guy had the balls to open his roof and give the thumbs up when I knew if i didnt let the gas go I would have been at 3 car lengths ahead.
But overall I played the illegal act in the safest way possible.
But still pisses me off that he thinks his 94 accord v6 (under 200hp) beat mine. Oh well.. let him brag to his buddies at work until he confronts another 850T
