Engine Start S70 1998

Lately I have been noticing my S70's cooling fan keeps on running for a while after I turn off my car. I don't think it needs that much cooling because it is -10 degrees Celcius outside!!! The worst is that I think it is draining the battery after I turn off the car. The reason I say this is because the car is having a hard time starting in some mornings (happening recently). The last time I went to get an oil change, the dealer told me that the battery is not charging up to 12.6 volts (it was at 12.33 volts). They recommended me to change to a new battery but I didn't get it. Can some one please explain this whole situation to me please?

You could have a loose sensor as well. Check the vacuum tree (next to the airobox) and make sure everything is tight there, all tubes are connected and not cracked. Possibly a bad MAF sensor as well.

Bad thermostat perhaps? Is the engine temp high? If so it can be the thermostat not opening when supposed to thus making the temperature sensor think the coolant is hot (which is correct, because it never reaches the cooler) and therefore the cooler fan runs.

Where is the MAF/temperature sensor located? The temperature gauge says that the temperature isn't high, not even mid-point.

Thanx for the info.

I have a 99 T5, so yours might be different- follow the air intake hose coming out of the airbox. There should be a hard plastic sensor on there that says "Bosch" somewhere on it. I think the only way to know if it's bad is to check the OBDII codes.

For more clarity, Eastern Aerospace has a post on their site about removing the MAF screen and they have pic's of the MAF sensor there. Hope the pic's help, but don't be tempted to remove the MAF screen as they suggest- it's a very bad idea from what I understand.
