Please give me advise on how to lengthen life of S80T6 trans

I just upgraded from a '97 V70 T5 to a "01 S80 T6 which only has 14,664 miles to it. So far I haven't had the chance to floor the car since traffic here in the Philippines is so bad that the average speed everyone drives is 6 mph. After reading all the nightmares about the transmission can anyone advise me whether by using the geartronic in traffic and shifting manually from 1 to 2 give me a longer life on the tranny? Just thought thought that by doing this there will be less shifting since the average speed is 6 mph

    I have never heard using the gear tronic feature will have effect on the transmission, most of the problems I have seen so far have been with the 1999 and 2000 models. I dont know if they would admit to making any changes in the GM transmission but I just have not haven't seen it.

    The S80 T6 is a GM transmission, very proven and rugged (not to imply the Asian Warner trannys aren't). GM is generally acknowledged for their ability in auto trans design and manufacture. I'm no S80 expert, but just from what I've read here, I've not heard of a rash of S80 transmission problems. Sounds like the electrics / electronics will be your challenge with an S80.

    Check the fluid level, change it if burnt, and just drive it.

      thanks for the reply. So nice to hear positive feedbacks and not nightmare stories which are being posted in theS80 index forums. For a while I thought i was doomed. Thanks again and if anyone out there would like to share they're feedbacks and advise, please do so. I love the car inspite of it being a gas monster. C u in cyberspace.
