you might remember me from another post on winshield glass. Well, here's the story. Met Life only approved aftermarket glass for my 1998 S70. I wanted dealer glass, but oh well. Anyway, when I picked up my car this afternoon the glass is stamped with "Pilkington." The same glass that was there before, but without the "Volvo" above it? The glass looks identical to what was there before, but without the pitting.. did I luck out? Is this the same glass that was there before? Or is Pilkington just aftermarket glass?

I had the same experience as yourself with a 98 S70. The glass seems identical but does not say "volvo", the guy at the glass shop said many owners insist on a glass that has the volvo name on it but most likely the glass is made in the
same plant.

Of course Volvo does not manufacture their own windows, they buy them from suppliers such as Pilkington. It sounds like the distributor sourced the glass from Pilkington. Kind of like buying a Mann labeled oil filter instead of a Volvo labeled one ... Mann makes 'em for Volvo.

Not to worry, you have a good quality piece of glass there.

makes me feel all the better that i didn't spend $290 in addition to what insurance was paying for the "Volvo," even though it is the same glass.

My new windsheild says Pilkington, it does have VOLVO and MADE IN SWEDEN on it. . .

My brother in law worked his entire career for Pilkington and it's predecessor, they make OEM glass for most auto manufacturers.
