Idle drop and A/C S80

I notice on my new (to me) '01 S80 (NA), that when the compressor is on, and the car is standing still at idle, the idle speed will drop, sharply every minute or so. Is this normal? I can also feel it when I am driving... a sudden loss of power. This does not seem to happen when the compressor is off.

Thanks,

Steve

Idle drop and A/C S80 2000

We just spent about $1200 to "fix" this problem. They first replaced the air mass sensor - oops, sorry that $400. didn't fix it. When the car died 2 days after getting it out of the shop, they then replaced the throttle body -$800. Time will tell if it's actually fixed. We were seeing a surge of about 100 rpm when the car was in idle and the a/c on. Then it started lurching and the rmp would jump 500rmp. Wish it would lurch itself off a cliff.

steve,

I believe the dealer has a software upgrade for this very problem, good luck!
