v40 shifting problems, jerking S40-V40 2000

I have a 2000 v40 that always wants to be in overdrive, even going up steep hills. The kickdown works but you have to do it over and over and it prefers to lug up hills at 1500 RPM. Is there any adjustment or corrective action to keep the transmission at higer revs aside from doing it manually. Also this car seems to jerk, like its missing when you push hard on the throttle.

There is a software upgrade for the 00-01 S/V40 transmissions. Not everyone seems to need it though. You can have the dealer check to see if this is needed. Others who have had this say the upgrade clears it up.

BTW: Make sure you fill or top up your transmission ONLY with Volvo's overpriced fluid for these trannys. My dealer sells it for $13/quart.....ouch. Unfortunately, nothing else will work right.
